This is a work in progress. So far I have just layer out the UI for visualizing the gel run out. I know there are other sequencing tool like Nanopores and other next gen sequencing technology being developed. A little bit about myself, I was a PCR technician in 2005 under Professor Merriwhether at Binghamton University. Using the 15 plus year old UI for sequencing tools has lead me to believe there needs to be an overhaul in the way our data scientists need to look at this problem.
GLOWING PARTICLE SHADER
To my students, this how I create a nice glowing particle. I used Mental Ray but this is something that Maya software render can achieve as well. Surface Shader is self illuminating. Its pretty self explanatory, You can find it in the Hypershade box or turn standard shaders into Surface Shader. I have included my settings below. This will achieve the glow used in my sequencer UI.
